January 2011
The January issue of the Minnesota Basketball News featured stories on Hill-Murray’s top players on their girls’ team, Gopher stories on Trevor Mbakwe and Kelly Roysland, and Boys section 3AAAA rivals. This issue also provides standings, rankings, and section profiles for every class. Jeff McCarron’s column related a basketball story from 1961 and Ron Haggstrom’s commented on the high school rankings. Rankings of teams by class, rankings by section, individual player statistical leaders and the 2011 Summer Camp Directory completed this issue.
February 2011
The February issue was a 40-page full-color issue that featured the Sebeka boys’ basketball team on the cover. All five starters (from last year’s team) will have scored 1,000 points by the end of this season for the first (known) time in Minnesota history.
Columns were provided by editor Ron Haggstrom (Yes! Injuries are part of the game) and publisher Jeff McCarron (Of Opponents and Friends).
Feature stories were written about Rachel Banham (Lakeville North), Cole Olstad (Plainview-Elgin-Millville), and DeLaSalle’s boys’ coach Dave Thorson.
Top 20 Team Rankings, the Top 25 Power Poll of all Minnesota teams, and section rankings of the “Final Four” teams along with section standings, and section highlights were also provided for every class and gender. The state leaders in scoring, rebounding and assists were also listed.
The 8-page color 2011 Summer Camp Directory filled the middle section of the paper.
